Seven parking facilities to be developed in Greater Male’ Area

The Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, has announced that seven parking structures will soon be developed across the Greater Malé region in an effort to address the current shortage of parking spaces.
He made the statement in a social media post accompanied by proposed design images. According to the Minister, the facilities will collectively provide more than 2,600 parking spaces for cars and 1,000 spaces for motorcycles.
Minister Ameen added that the initiative, undertaken under the directive of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, is intended to increase parking capacity, ease congestion, and reduce illegal roadside parking, thereby creating safer roads for all citizens.
During a meeting with residents of Henveiru in December 2025, President Muizzu confirmed that the project would be financed through a Line of Credit (LOC) from India.
As part of the plan, two parking structures will be built in Malé. An additional facility will be developed in Vilimalé near the bridge, while another will be constructed in a conveniently accessible location in Hulhumalé.
The Minister described the project as a significant step towards improving mobility across the Greater Malé region.
