Home Minister Ahmed Azleen have said that death penalty will be implemented in the Maldives.
Speaking to the press at the President’s office yesterday he assured that death penalty will be implemented in the Maldives. He said that, it is a punishment that is stipulated in the Quran and Sunnah and that the government should implement it.
He did not specify on when the punishment will be implemented on those who have been sentenced by the Supreme Court. However, he assured that when all the procedures are completed death penalty will be implemented.
Death penalty in the Maldives will be implemented after many stages. For instance, death penalty cannot be implemented if living relatives of the victims disagree to do so.
