Former Vice President of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and the MP for Feydhoo، Alhan Fahmy has submitted an appeal at the Supreme Court asking the court to issue an interim order to defer the enforcement of the prison sentence on former President Mohamed Nasheed.
In the appeal، Alhan stated that the Supreme Court ruled that MNDF to release Criminal Court Chief Justice Abdulla ‘Gaazee’ Mohamed abducted on 12 January 2012، clearly denoting that MNDF was responsible for the ‘kidnapping’.
It also noted that none of the courts had asked for the compensation for the damages during the incident from MNDF.
Furthermore، the appeal by Alhan requested the court to nullify the charges pressed against Nasheed، as it violated the ruling by the Supreme Court and the Constitution.
In addition to this، the case requested for a temporary order، to postpone the sentence of Nasheed till the Supreme Court reaches a verdict in the case.
State pressed terror charges on Nasheed and top state officials of his government for the military detention of Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdulla Mohamed back in 2012. He was found guilty of the charges and sentenced to 13 years in jail under strong anti-terror laws of the country on March 13th.
