Broadcom’s SG Zeeniya suspended over ‘lack of cooperation’

Mariyam Zeeniya, the secretary-general of Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom), has been penalized with a three-day suspension for failure to cooperate in implementing the commission’s decisions.
Sun has been informed Zeeniya’s three-day suspension begins on Wednesday. She has been instructed to provide a written response during the period.
The reasons cited for her suspension includes derelict of duties mandated under Broadcom Act and in the administration of the commission, and failure to respect the commission’s decisions or cooperate in implementing the decisions.
The suspension comes after Zeeniya was investigated for complaints including the allegation she was deliberately emotionally abuse towards a commission’s staff member, and was openly disrespectful towards the commission’s president, Safa Shafeeq.
She reportedly provided a verbal response to the allegations.
The suspension also comes after a petition was submitted to the Parliament accusing the president and some other commission members of being emotionally abusive towards the commission’s staff members and preventing them from executing their duties.
