Fenaka: Unlikely power will be restored to Gan within a day

Fenaka Corporation, the provider of electricity service in L. Gan, states it is highly unlikely power will be restored to the island within a day following a total blackout arising from a fire which broke out at Gan powerhouse.
Gan Councilor Abdulla Shuaau, citing Fenaka, said it is unlikely power will be restored to the island within the next 24 hours.
According to the Police, the fire at Fenaka’s powerhouse in Gan on Wednesday afternoon was brought under control at around 15:50, with one generator set rendered unusable. They confirmed that no injuries occurred and stated that the incident is under investigation.
Gan Council President Ahmed Zaki told Sun that the fire broke out at approximately 14:45pm this afternoon.
Citing staff present at the powerhouse when the fire started, Zaki said the blaze originated from the chimney and noted that attempts to control it from inside the powerhouse had been unsuccessful.
The cause of the fire remains unclear.
Zaki explained that the first priority after extinguishing the fire would be replacing the powerhouse roof. He added that, while some generators were damaged, overall damage was limited.
Notably, Gan has a population of some 5,000 people.
A video circulating on social media shows the powerhouse engulfed in flames, with the entire area shrouded in black smoke.
