The Maldives has crossed the two-million tourist mark for 2025, achieving the milestone earlier than it did in 2024. The two millionth visitor, arriving from the United Kingdom, was welcomed at Velana International Airport by Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim and other officials.
The country first reached two million annual arrivals on 26 December last year, making this year’s accomplishment both earlier and a sign of stronger sector performance. Minister Thoriq said the achievement reflects the hard work of industry partners nationwide, noting that arrivals have grown by an estimated 9.8 to 10 percent compared to 2024.
With December, traditionally one of the busiest months for tourism, still ahead, the Government now needs roughly 300,000 more visitors to meet its target of 2.3 million arrivals for the year.
