The Maldives has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dertour Deutschland, one of the largest tour operators in Europe, to significantly increase tourist arrivals from Germany and further strengthen the Maldives’ presence in the European travel market.
The MoU was signed on the sidelines of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's ongoing official visit to Berlin. The agreement was signed on behalf of Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) by Ibrahim Shiuree, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, and on behalf of DERTOUR Deutschland by Jörn Krausser, Director – Indian Ocean & Asia.
Under the agreement, both parties will collaborate on destination marketing initiatives aimed at driving a minimum of 100,000 German tourist arrivals, with a shared ambition to exceed 200,000 German visitors in the following year, reinforcing Germany’s position as one of the Maldives’ most important European source markets.
According to the VMC, the collaboration will focus on joint promotional campaigns, trade engagement programmes, and targeted marketing initiatives aligned with German consumer preferences, seasonal demand patterns, and distribution channels.
As part of the agreement, DERTOUR Deutschland will provide market expertise and strategic input to support the development of data-driven destination marketing strategies for the Maldives. Both parties will also exchange relevant tourism data, market intelligence, and performance insights, in line with applicable confidentiality and data-sharing regulations.
The MoU further outlines cooperation on mutually agreed trade events, sales activations, and promotional initiatives organised by either party, with the shared objective of strengthening engagement with the German travel trade and driving measurable growth in arrivals.
Dertour Deutschland comprises the tour operators Dertour , ITS and Meires Weltreisen, and is a part of the Dertour Group. As REWE Group’s travel and tourism division, the DERTOUR Group operates a broad portfolio of established tour operator brands, travel agencies and destination services providing comprehensive tourism solutions across global markets.
This MoU underscores VMC's continued focus on strengthening partnerships with leading tour operators in priority markets, ensuring long-term destination visibility, deeper trade collaboration, and sustainable growth from Germany and across Europe.
