The segment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu which was closed under Phase 2 of the Malé North Side Boduthakurufaanu Magu Development Project has been opened for public use after completion of asphalt works.
In a post on X last night, Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen announced that the newly developed segment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, spanning from Chaandhanee Magu to Faalandhoshu Hingun, will be opened for public use from 5:00am Monday morning. He added that the completed segment has been designated a two-way road.
Minister Ameen emphasized that the project—featuring the expansion into a four-lane roadway in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s strategic vision—is anticipated to greatly reduce traffic congestion and improve overall transportation efficiency in the region.

Notably, the area of Boduthakurufaanu Magu between the Fish Market and the presidential jetty was reopened to the public mid-December following three months of extensive development work under the project’s first phase, which included asphalt paving and modernization. To enhance convenience and safety for both pedestrians and drivers, the road was widened to four lanes, with substantially broader sidewalks constructed on either side.
Work on first segment began on August 22, 2025, after the Ministry of Construction awarded state-owned Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) the project worth MVR 144.5 million on April 9, 2025, to be completed in one year and three months.
According to MTCC, the project involves asphalt paving along an 830-meter section from the ferry terminal near the Carnival area to the Fish Market, in addition to 737 meters of sheet piling. The company further stated that the addition of a comprehensive drainage system alongside the paving works will effectively resolve the area’s persistent flooding problem.
