Government coalition partner Adhaalath Party has failed to receive any seats in the parliamentary election, with Makunudhoo MP Anara Naeem losing her re-election bid.
Adhaalath had contested in nine constituencies in Saturday’s election and Anara Naeem was the only Adhaalath MP from the previous parliament.
Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate Mohamed Raaif won the Makunudhoo seat, and Anara received the least amount of votes out of the three candidates.
Party leader and Home Minister Imran Abdulla and other senior members had travelled to the islands to campaign for Anara.
MDP candidates defeated Adhaalath in the constituencies of Kelaa, Vaikaradhoo, Inguraidhoo, Gadhdhoo, Kaashidhoo, and Mulak.
MDP had endorsed Adhaalath candidates in Mahibadhoo, and Nilandhoo constituencies.
