Laila’s request to President; pleads not to hurt her husband، Nasheed

Former First Lady of Maldives، Laila Ali sent letter to President Yameen Abdul Gayoom، pleading not to instill harm on her husband، Mohamed Nasheed who has been sentenced to jail for a term of 13 years over terrorism charges.
Laila Ali، confirmed the news to reporters sometime today، stating she had sent a letter to President Yameen requesting not to practice any unlawful or indecent act on her husband. She had sent the letter over the recent rumours of a conspired plot to assassinate Mohamed Nassheed.
She had stated the rumours have been strongly buzzing regarding a possible assassination plot at play against her husband، while he is jailed. With various people bringing in the news to her every day، and her family and relatives growing restless over the matter.
Laila asserts، she had received the possibility of such a plot in motion from sources she consider trustworthy، stating “A source who I cannot choose to ignore، had given me the validity and authenticity of the news، so I am very worried about him [Nasheed]”.
In her letter to both President Yameen and Home Minister Umar Naseer she had pleaded not to assault or torture former President and her husband، Mohamed Nasheed، and requested to guarantee this via a letter or from action.
Nasheed’s elder brother Dr. Ibrahim Naashid، affirms the unlikeliness of Nasheed being assaulted or assassinated by inmates، since he had not faced anything during his past jail terms. He also mentioned that inmates and Nasheed share a close bond.
Though MDP alleges of a conspiracy of a possible assassination plot against former President Mohamed Nasheed، Police had thus denied these claims.
During a press conference held، Superintendent of Police Hamdhoon Rasheed had discussed about the rumour، and discarded the claims as “lies”.
