In a statement, the President’s Office said that the president’s visit was made to attend the final match and closing ceremony of the “Minivan 50 Championship” football tournament held on Wednesday afternoon in Hithadhoo of Addu City. At the closing ceremony held after the final match, President Yameen awarded Feydhoo the champion’s trophy and gold medal. The runner-up team of the tournament, Fares Maathodaa was awarded with silver medals by the Managing Director of State Trading Organisation Ahmed Shaheer. Additionally, the institutions that contributed and helped in this tournament were acknowledged with commemorative prizes. The commemorative prizes were presented to STO, flagship carrier Maldivian, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and police. A separate statement by the President’s Office said that the president had Wednesday evening met with senior officials of Addu. The president was accompanied at this meeting by some members of the parliament, it added. Details of the meeting were, however, not given.
