Content creator loans now open, up to MVR 500K available

The SME Development Finance Corporation (SDFC) on Sunday launched a new soft loan program specifically designed for content creators actively engaged in various social media activities.
This initiative fulfills a presidential promise made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to provide financial assistance to the nation's content creators.
The loan facility, aiming to foster sustainable growth within the creative economy sector, will offer financial aid to both content creators and filmmakers. It is intended to help them acquire necessary resources for developing productive activities and expanding their businesses.
Loan details:
Loan amount: Up to MVR 500,000.
Mortgage requirements:
Digital content creators, influencers, and videographers can access up to MVR 150,000 without requiring a mortgage.
Loans up to MVR 500,000 are available with a mortgage.
Repayment period: A maximum of five years.
Interest rate: 9.5 percent per annum.
Grace period: A maximum of six months is included in the repayment period.
This financing is expected to enable content creators to acquire essential equipment, cover production costs, and manage other expenses vital for expanding their creative ventures.
Badhurudheen Hassan, SDFC Managing Director, highlighted the rapid global growth of the creative economy, noting that Maldivian youth are at the forefront of this movement.
The application window for this loan program opened on Sunday. Interested applicants can submit their applications through the SME portal available on the SDFC website.

The President had initially directed the opening of this loan opportunity for content creators within two weeks on the 14th of last month. Following this directive, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed engaged with content creators to gather their perspectives on the loan program.
The Maldives has witnessed a significant surge in social media usage across all age groups, with many individuals actively participating on platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.
