Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) on Sunday commenced the handover of flats from the 4,000 units developed in Hulhumale' under the previous government's 'Gedhoruveriyaa' housing scheme.
The corporation had begun the online handover process to owners two weeks prior, on September 11. The first of the 4,000 flats to be handed over is located in Tower 14 of Aman Udhares.
FDC announced on Sunday that its Managing Director, Hamdhaan Shakeel, personally handed over the keys to the very first flat at a ceremony held at Aman Udhares Tower 14. Shakeel also launched the Aman Handbook at the ceremony, which the FDC states will provide crucial information for residents of the Aman towers.
The handover of flats will occur on every working day between 09:00 and 16:00. Key handover dates and processes will be communicated via the FDC portal.
The flats are being delivered with essential facilities, including water, sewerage, and electricity.
To facilitate residents' move, FDC has implemented a special arrangement through its portal for the delivery of large items and furniture to the flats. Advance bookings for this service will be available through the portal starting Monday.
Residents will be able to store their items within designated areas of the building after booking space. The corporation emphasized that this initiative aims to reduce congestion in the public areas of the tower during the moving process.

FDC is currently preparing agreements for the 4,000 flats and is collecting a down payment of MVR 25,000 from tenants. The flats will be handed over upon payment completion.
The Gedhoruveriyaa scheme was initially introduced by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to address the housing crisis prevalent in Malé city. The MDP government released the first list of flat recipients under the scheme during its final days in power.
Subsequently, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) flagged issues with the list, leading to a halt in flat allocations. The current government, upon assuming power, conducted an investigation into the matter for over a year before issuing a new list this year.
Following criticism of the new list, the Housing Ministry reversed its decision, stating that flats would be allocated according to the original list issued by the MDP government.
Despite the latest developments, concerns persist regarding the current government's flat allocation process. Allegations include instances where 301 individuals with 76 points were not included in draws, while 315 individuals with 75 marks were.
Furthermore, the Fahi Union, an organization advocating for the rights of flat recipients and applicants, has alleged that approximately 350 flats are being illicitly sold to various individuals by people claiming to be Housing Ministry employees. The Housing Ministry has, however, denied these allegations.
Much awaited Gedhoruveriyaa flats finally being handed over
