Foreign Minister reveals latest figures on foreign service, political staff

Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel has disclosed the latest figures on political and foreign service employees posted at headquarters and missions as of end of January this year. The information was revealed in a written response to a question posed by Galolhu North MP Mohamed Ibrahim.
The statistics provided on January 2025 staffing numbers are as follows:
Foreign service employees based at headquarters: 93
Foreign service employees based at missions: 46
Total: 139
Political appointees based at headquarters: 28
Political employees at based at missions: 104
Total: 132
Minister Khaleel also provided information on foreign service and political employees based at headquarters and missions in October 2023, before the current administration took Office.
Foreign service employees based at headquarters: 98
Foreign service employees based at missions: 39
Total: 137
Political appointees based at headquarters: 18
Political employees at based at missions: 98
Total: 116
According to the Foreign Service Act, the number of political employees in foreign service roles should not exceed 20 percent of the total number of employees in foreign service.
