The scouts of Maldives have been playing an exemplary role in society by shaping and building strong ties within the community, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said.
On the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the Scout movement in Maldives , the President extended warm felicitations to the past and present scouts of the country’s scouts movement.
President Dr Muizzu pointed out scouts have always been ready to help the country in any national emergency, while doing an exemplary job in building strong community relationships.
The Association was first registered in 1984 as the “Maldives Boy Scout Association”. Later on the Association was renamed as “The Scout Association of Maldives” in 1994.
The association was officially recognized as a member of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) in 1990. With that decision, the Maldivian scouts have participated in international jamborees while hosting several others in Maldives.
In addition, Maldives has been recognised with achievements and awards in the field of scouting worldwide. The recent Asia Pacific Regional Chairman of the Scout Movement award was presented to the Chief Commissioner of the Scout Association of Maldives, Maeed Mohamed Zahir.
The incumbent government has also pledged to continue the scouting movement and provide more opportunities and facilitate an environment in schools to conduct scout activities.
