Gov’t to Offer Land Swap Option to Decongest Male’

The government is set to unveil a programme to allow people owning land that are not economically viable to develop, to swap their respective lands with the government for a better land in the capital Male’ region, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced.
Speaking to PSM News, the President said land located in narrow streets and small corners throughout the city, make construction work a huge challenge. Most of these lands are not eligible for bank loans or even contractor finance as the developers do not deem them economically viable, he explained.
To offer a solution to such families, the government will offer them the chance to swap their land to one from a better area through this programme, he added.
"We will commence this programme during this year. We will handover the official document before the end of the year," he said.
According to the President, in exchange for their land, families interested in this programme will be given the chance to acquire a land of the exact size from several areas that are currently under land reclamation, including Rasmale’, Gulhi Falhu, Giraavaru Falhu or Uthuruthila Falhu.
This land exchange programme will enable the government to decongest the capital, build more parks, green spaces and open areas aimed at making Male’ a more livable city, he added.
