'Party owes success to President Yameen's sacrifices': PPM

The ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) on Saturday night attributed the party's success and strength to the sacrifices of outgoing President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
In a special statement released on the occasion of PPM's seventh anniversary, the party stated that it was founded to protect the Maldivian nation and state religion of Islam.
The statement highlighted PPM's election win in 2013, noting that PPM was the youngest political party to have won the first presidential election it contested in.
PPM claimed that it was the first political party to have accomplished unprecedented development within a single presidential term in the Maldives.
The ruling party also proclaimed that its name will be "writ in gold" in the history of Maldives.
Additionally, PPM stated that the people of Maldives recognises the party as the one that brought about the most progress to the country.
PPM further declared that the members and supporters of the party were the true reasons for their success, and thanked them for their dedication and loyalty.
