MDP to hold discussions without Nasheed

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has passed to hold negotiations with the Government without the participation of former President Mohamed Nasheed.
Prior to this decision MDP had firmly stated that the Party would not hold negotiations with the Government without Nasheed as the lead negotiator.
Speaking to press Ibrahim Mohamed Solih reported that the decision was finalized in a meeting of the National Congress of the Party held last night, which was requested by Nasheed.
Nasheed, who is presently serving a 13 year sentence on terror charges was shifted to house arrest for a period of three days on Sunday. Home Ministry later extended the period by two months on Wednesday.
Both Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Parliamentary Group (PG) Leader Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik and Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb had denied that Nasheed’s transfer to house arrest had no connection to the recent vote held to amend the age category of President and Vice President. Tourism Minister Adeeb is temporarily in charge of administering Home Ministry as well.
