Nasheed joins climate diplomacy workshop in Dhigufaru Resort

Former President and ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) leader Mohamed Nasheed is currently in Dhigufaru Island Resort in Baa atoll, where a workshop on Climate Diplomacy and Geopolitics in ongoing.
The office of the former President revealed that the workshop will be focusing on topics including reforms to the UN climate talks and whether small island states can play a global role in helping to solve the unfolding climate crisis.
In a tweet posted on Saturday, the coalition leader wrote that "we must make the international climate change negotiations fit for purpose".

The two-day workshop will also see a presentation by international academics who are in the Maldives to take part in it.
Some of them include academics from Liego University in Belgium, University of Economics in Bratislava and Sciences Po in France.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and Minister of Environment, Dr Hussain Rasheed will be giving speeches at the workshop which is scheduled to be divided into three sessions.
Representatives from the President’s Office, Environment Ministry, Foreign Ministry the MDP leadership as well as some Parliament members will be taking part in the workshop.
The workshop is being help in partnership with the EDGE project of the European Commission and is taking place 10 years after ex-President Nasheed held the first ever underwater cabinet meeting.
