A State Trading Organization (STO) oil tanker has wrecked off the coast of K. Kaashidhoo.
The Coastguard says the incident was reported to the agency in the pre-dawn hours of this Thursday.
The Coastguard is currently working on moving the tanker off the reef using a Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) tugboat.
The agency confirms that there is a shipment of fuel on board the tanker, but says there is no risk of an oil spill.
STO was not immediately available for comment regarding the incident.
