The sailor reported missing from a cargo boat off L. Gan which sank after a fire incident has been found dead.
Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) initiated a search for the sailor, identified as a foreign national, at approximately 03:00 pm this Monday.
MNDF spokesperson confirms divers recovered the sailor’s body from 48 meters underwater.
His body has been taken to the Gan Regional Hospital.
The cargo boat ‘Vindhu’ was travelling with 10 crew members when it caught on fire and sank off the coast of Gan; one Maldivian and nine foreigners.
