The People’s Majlis member for north-Galolhu electorate، Eva Abdulla seeks the help of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to secure the release of the former president Mohamed Nasheed، who has been sentenced to 13 years in prison on terrorism charges.
Indian newspaper، The Hindu reported that a member of Maldives parliament، Eva Abdulla، has written to PM Modi seeking assistance to secure the release of the jailed ex-President. Eva، is a cousin of former president Mohamed Nasheed.
Noting that India’s help was integral during the reform movement in Maldives، Eva stated in her letter that، “I believe it is in India’s interest to see Maldives return to the democratic path. We cannot afford another failed Muslim democracy، nor a front of instability in the Indian Ocean.”
However، no official response has yet been released by India، with regards to the letter sent by MP Eva.
Meanwhile، Amnesty International released a report، urging the Indian government to take initiative to eliminate the issues in Maldives against the fundamental human rights.
