The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF)’s Coast Guard has detained a foreign fishing vessel trespassing in Maldivian waters.
According to MNDF, the vessel identified as a Sri Lankan fishing boat was carrying six crew members. The boat and its crew have now been handed over to Maldives Police Service.
On 26 December last year, MNDF detained a foreign fish in vessel operating in Maldivian waters in a similar case. The boat was located using MNDF AirCorps’ drone in an operation conducted in the Maldives’ Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Authorities also detained a dinghy vessel in the Maldives’ territory later the same month.
