The Maldives Police Service fined 11 individuals for vaping in January for 14 separate cases.
The use, sale and distribution of vaping devices have been banned in the Maldives since December 15 last year. From December 15 to the end of that month, 17 people were fined for 20 cases of vape use.
According to the law, a fine of MVR 50,000 can be imposed if vaping devices are imported into Maldives. A fine of MVR 10,000 can be imposed for each device used for vaping. The sale of vaping devices will incur an MVR 20,000 fine and an additional MVR 10,000 per each additional device sold. The act of vaping itself carries an MVR 5,000 fine.
