Registration open for ‘Burunu Boma’ – Maldives’ biggest sport fishing tournament

The Visit Maldives Club (VMC) on Tuesday opened registration for ‘Burunu Boma’ – the Maldives biggest sports fishing tournament scheduled to kick off in May this year.
The VMC is an initiative spearheaded by the staff of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), also known as Visit Maldives, designed to strengthen the Maldives tourism industry through engaging events to create a unified tourism community that works together to elevate the Maldives as a top global destination.
The ‘Burunu Buma’ tournament was officially launched on December 20, 2024 by Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam.
The VCM has invited anglers from Maldives and around the world to compete for the grand prize of USD 10,000 in the breathtaking waters of the Maldives, promising “an unforgettable experience, filled with excitement, world-class fishing, and fierce competition.”

According to the VMC, the ‘Burunu Boma tournament is designed to attract international fishing enthusiasts and participants from the Maldives sport fishing and tourism industry.
The tournament emphasizes the “catch and release” method, ensuring the protection of the marine environment and underwater life while engaging in healthy and friendly competitive fishing.
