Republic Square has been temporarily closed to the public as preparations for Maldives’ Independence Day celebrations get underway.
The Ministry of Construction announced that the closure, which began yesterday, will remain in effect until July 25. During this period, repair and beautification works are being carried out to ready the area for national events.
As one of the most prominent public spaces in Malé, Republic Square regularly hosts major national celebrations and ceremonies. The Ministry noted that the ongoing efforts aim to ensure the area is in optimal condition for the upcoming festivities.
