Deputy AG concerned over the verdict on Ex-President Nasheed

Violating others’ rights while achieving one’s rights is unfair، stated the Deputy Attorney General Ahmed Usham، raising concerns over the conviction of Ex-President and the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) leader Mohamed Nasheed.
Ahmed Usham said the ‘abduction and isolation’ of Judge Abdulla ‘Gaazee’ Mohaed in 2012 is a unlawful and violates the rules، and the ones who are responsible should all face a legal trial.
“However،” Usham said “they cannot be separated from their constitutional rights، or disregard the rules set by the Maldivian laws and the Supreme Court.”
Ex-President Nasheed was sentenced for 13 years in jail by the Criminal Court on Friday night. He was pressed with terrorism charges by the State، for the alleged unlawful detention of Judge Abdulla ‘Gaazee’ Mohamed in 2012.
Meanwhile، the lawyers of Ex-President Nasheed have announced they will appeal the conviction.
