The former President and the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) leader Mohamed Nasheed is detained in Dhoonidhoo and kept in a ‘room’، said Home Minister Umar Naseer.
Speaking live on DhiTV’s “Habaruge Therein” program، Umar said they respect Nasheed and keep him in a room. “He is not thrown into a cell.”
Umar said he respects Nasheed as a former President of the Maldives.
He further refuted the allegations that the government is building a ‘special cell’ in Maafushi if Ex-President Nasheed is sentenced to jail.
Umar said while the verdict of the court remains unknown، the succeeding decisions concerning the matter are not considered.
“We will consider what to do next after the verdict. Regarding where to keep him،” Umar said.
