Public Service Media (PSM) has been awarded the Broadcast Media Award by the Cricket Board of Maldives (CBM).
The commemorative plaque was awarded to PSM during the CBM’s ‘Sports Evening’ Event. The was handed over by the CBM’s Vice President Ahmed Ishaq. The award was received by PSM’s Editor of Sports Desk, Rimah Ahmed.
PSM has covered many events pertaining to Cricket over the past year, most notably bringing real time coverage of the T-20 cricket tournament final. In addition to this, PSM has brought news coverage related to development of cricket across the entire island nation.
During the event, CMB honoured different personalities that contributed to the development of sports through various means. Most notably, the Liruqam Saeed from Laamu Atoll was awarded the coaching award. Mohamed Asif won an award in the field of Umpiring, and Mariyam Leen Luthfee won the award in Scoring Category. Furthermore, an award was presented to the staff of ‘Ekuveni' sporting ground for their tireless effort in operating the notable cricket ground of the nation’s capital.
Kunahandhoo, Laamu atoll won a special disctinctive award presented by the CBM’s president for contribution to the development of the sports. Kunahandhoo is well known for developing talentd cricket players in Maldives, and the Maldives Women’s National Cricket Team includes many players from the island.
Other notable award categories for which individuals were presented awards during the event were as follows. Best International Player, Best Aspiring Young Talent, Best Batsman, Best Bowler and best five players in under 14 and under 16 categories.
The most prominent club award was presented to CBL sports. And all-around best player award was presented to the recently selected secretary-general of CBL Ibrahim Rizaan. He has served the national cricket team for a long period of time. He secured the award with 1895 points.
