Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has departed to New Delhi, India upon invitation from his Indian counterpart.
The home minister is visiting India to hold official talks with the Indian Government on ways of assisting the enhancement of internal security in Maldives. Speaking at the airport before his departure, Minister Imran said this is an opportunity the ministry received due to improved relations between the two nations since the current administration took office. Minister Imran also highlighted the joint operations of the two nations to monitor and safeguard the Indian Ocean and the various training opportunities the country has provided to Maldives Police Service.
Meanwhile, a tweet from Ministry of Home Affairs stated India has been a close ally to Maldives who have always contributed to maintain sovereignty and peace in Maldives.
During his visit to India from February 18 to 23, meetings will be held with top officials to discuss joint operations. Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed and Minister of State for Home Affairs Ali Nazeer accompanies the minister on his trip to India.
