The latest updates from Ministry of Tourism reveal a year-to-date total of 700,594 tourist arrivals reported as of 18 August 2021.
The figure is already in excess of the total annual tourist arrivals in 2020, which stood at just 555,494 by the end of December 2020.
Furthermore, the state body revealed a total tourist arrival of 88,227 from 1 to 18 August whereas the arrival count had hit just 4,483 during the same period in 2020.
The tourism growth reflected so far in August in comparison with the same period of 2020, stood at 1,868% while there is no improvement when the review period is compared with the corresponding period of 2019.
In general the daily average of tourist arrivals so far in August reached 4,902 while the average duration of stay is 9.7 days.
Meanwhile, Russia has maintained its top spot as the strongest single tourist market to Maldives with a total arrival of 154,380 so far which is a 22% market share while India is ranked second with an arrival count of 132,745 so far which is an 18.9% market share.
