Police Commissioner pledges inclusive, discrimination-free environment in policing

Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed has stated that the goal is to establish an environment within the police service that is free from discrimination.
He made these remarks while speaking at the opening session of the third forum of the “Maldives Women in Policing Committee.”
Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed noted that transforming the police institution into one that undertakes vital work to ensure the safety and security of the entire society is a key priority of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. He further highlighted that, across all areas of policing, the capability, professionalism, and courage of female officers are clearly evident. In this regard, he emphasised that female officers play a crucial role in building trust and confidence, particularly when working closely with the community and addressing sensitive issues involving women and children.
The Commissioner also pointed out that the empathy and depth of understanding shown by female officers significantly enhance police operations. He reiterated that the institution’s aim is to create an inclusive environment where everyone is treated equally without discrimination. Additionally, he stated that efforts will be made to increase the participation of female officers in leadership roles and decision-making processes.
“Our aim is to ensure an inclusive and equal environment within the police service, free from discrimination. We will continue to prioritise increasing the participation of female officers in leadership and decision-making roles, removing barriers they face, and creating more opportunities for them,” he said.
He also expressed confidence that, moving forward, new pathways will be created for female officers, and that the police institution will become one that offers equal opportunities for all.
