MP Mohamed Shameez Calls for Transparency in State Fund Spending

Member of Parliament for Madaveli constituency, Mohamed Shameez, emphasized the need for rigorous oversight of state fund expenditures during today’s parliamentary session.
Shameez, a member of the ruling PNC, warned that failure to monitor government spending would lead to public dissatisfaction and erode trust in governance. “If we don’t talk about it, these things won’t get done,” he stated, urging fellow representatives to address such issues proactively.
He drew attention to prolonged delays in sewerage projects in his constituency, noting that Nadella’s project has been ongoing for nearly a decade. At the same time, Madaveli’s project has been ongoing for over 15 years with only 10 to 15 per cent completion.
Shameez expressed frustration at the lack of clarity from responsible authorities and highlighted Madaveli’s longstanding housing crisis, with multiple families living together due to a shortage of land plots for over 35 years. He criticised previous administrations, including the MDP government, for failing to deliver on sewerage infrastructure and land reclamation promises.
Despite these challenges, Shameez expressed hope that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration will complete the projects, citing recent assurances from the Housing Minister about imminent land reclamation work in Madaveli.
