President announces 3,000 housing units to begin construction before year-end

Male’ city is set to see the construction of 3,000 new housing units before the close of this year, announced President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday evening.
Speaking at a rally organized by the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) in Male’ city, President Muizzu highlighted the housing shortage as one of the most significant challenges facing the Male' area.
The government is committed to commencing the construction of these 3,000 units in Male' city within the current year. This initiative is in addition to 4,000 housing units slated for implementation under the Indian Line of Credit and a further 3,000 units planned by the government, he stated.
“A project of at least 3,000 housing units will hopefully be launched in Male' city before the end of this year,” President Muizzu affirmed.
He also indicated that work on the flats under the line of credit would commence shortly.

“This is one of the biggest pledges I made to the people,” he emphasized.
President Muizzu further assured that flats constructed by the previous government are being handed over as promised, without any alterations.
He reiterated that the current administration will not discriminate against its citizens, stressing the importance of every individual, regardless of the population size of their island.
The President's announcement of a major housing project in Male' city comes amidst some criticism regarding the launch of his own housing initiatives. The previous government had also faced scrutiny for the extended period, exceeding six years, taken to hand over flats.
