Former President and the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) leader Mohamed Nasheed will be freed soon، said MDP Chairperson and former MP، Ali Waheed.
Ali Waheed alleged the man behind the plot to prosecute President Nasheed is the former president and ruling party Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) leader Maumoon Abdul Gayoom، speaking at the opposition gathering at City Council ground on Thursday night.
However، Ali Waheed stated، MDP will partake any elections with President Nasheed in their lead.
“We will go forward with Mohamed Nasheed of Kenereege in the next elections in Maldives. We will show the success to this party،” Ali Waheed said.
Ali Waheed further alleged the prosecution of Nasheed is conducted on unlawful grounds and driven by a personal grudge، and stated Nasheed is ‘not a terrorist’ but a champion.
“Mohamed Nasheed will not stay in jail for long. Within few days، he will be back with us، we will bring him home،” he said.
The opposition reportedly held a gathering last night to “issue a verdict” on the presiding bench of the criminal court، however، the gathering ended without ‘a verdict’.
