Speaker Nasheed has expressed his disappointment over the police’s inability to stop the looting and gang violence that Addu City has been facing.
Last week, he had visited the islands of Addu City and interacted with several of the locals. Nasheed claimed that Addu City is no longer safe during today’s parliament session, and several locals voiced their complaints about gang violence and stealing.
He additionally stated that the members are worried about the issue as well, and he expects all the members to find a solution for this.
Aside from Male, Addu City is one of the most populous. Imran, the home minister, has also previously stated that there are not enough police officers in Addu City in relation to the population.
