Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has asked tenants of the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ social housing units in Hulhumale’ Phase II to report any issues with their water bills to the corporation, after some of the first residents, who moved into an Amaan Udhares tower, reported receiving unusually high bills.
The FDC has developed 4,000 units in Hulhumale’ Phase II under the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ social housing scheme. Tenants began moving in back in November to Tower 14 of the Amaan Udhares towers.
Some of them have said that they have been charged more than MVR 7,000 for water usage.
Responding to this, Male’ Water and Sewerage Services (MWSC)’s Managing Director Abdul Matheen said that the water meters are currently registered to FDC. He said that the bill includes charges for water usage during testing and commissioning, and must therefore be paid not by the tenants, but by the FDC.
He said that the water meters will be registered to tenants once the FDC clears the payments.
On Tuesday, the FDC made a public announcement asking Amaan Udhares tenants facing this issue to report it to the corporation via its hotline 3345500 or [email protected].
“We are working with relevant authorities to identify the cause of this issue and resolve this,” assured the FDC.
