The Parliament has ratified the appointments of non-resident ambassadors to Sweden, Seychelles, and Austria, following a review by the Foreign Relations Committee and a legislative vote. The nominations, submitted by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, required parliamentary approval, a procedural step in the diplomatic framework.
Among those approved is Aishath Shan Shakir, the Maldivian Ambassador to Germany, who will now also serve as the non-resident ambassador to Sweden. Masood Imad, currently the High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, has been entrusted with additional responsibilities as the non-resident high commissioner to Seychelles. Similarly, Dr Salma Rasheed, the Maldives' Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, will expand her diplomatic portfolio to include Austria.
Parliament ratified the appointments of these non-resident ambassadors in a vote that secured the backing of 71 members.
