The Parliament on Wednesday approved Mohamed Mujthaz for appointment as a member of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu nominated Mujthaz for the role on April 7. The nomination was reviewed by the Parliament’s Independent Institutions Committee.
The Parliament approved the nomination with a unanimous vote of 71 on Wednesday.
Mujthaz is a former parliamentary representative for the Hanimaadhoo constituency. He also served as a state minister at the President’s Office during former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration.
The vacancy at CSC opened in March after the commission’s then-vice president Ibrahim Rasheed resigned in face of a no-confidence motion against him at the Parliament.
The five-member CSC was established in 2007, with a mandate to appoint civil service staff, establish a professional and modern service, and drive government policy and democratic governance.
