MACL opens new seaplane counters at VIA terminal

The seaplane check-in area at Velana International Airport’s (VIA) new terminal was officially opened on Sunday.
Located next to the arrival gate, the newly operational counters offer a spacious, air-conditioned environment designed for passenger comfort. Photos shared by Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) show indoor greenery and seating areas that create a relaxed atmosphere.
The new terminal was inaugurated on July 26 last year, coinciding with Independence Day. Since then, all airlines have transitioned to the facility, with December marking one of VIA’s busiest months.

While the seaplane check-in area is now in use, some passengers have voiced concerns that the process takes longer than it did at the old terminal.
The development is part of MACL’s broader effort to enhance the airport experience and deliver a premium start to travelers’ journeys.
