Agriculture ministry aims to make Dhanduveriya farmer app available before Ramadan

The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare is working to make the Dhanduveriya farmer app available for use before next Ramadan.
Originally launched as a web application in 2002, Dhanduveriya has now been developed into a mobile app. According to state media, the beta testing phase has been completed.
The ministry said it aims to roll out the app in selected pilot areas ahead of Ramadan. The platform was designed to collect agricultural data and help attract investors to farming islands, supporting projects that strengthen the agriculture sector.
As farmers prepare for the upcoming Ramadan season, fields in major farming islands, A.A. Thoddoo and Th. Kandoodhoo, are already yielding well. Thoddoo councillor and farmer Aishath Junaidha said farmers expect higher income during Ramadan, including improved earnings from vegetable exports such as cucumbers.
Kandoodhoo Council President Ahmed Reehan also said farmers on the island are actively preparing for the season.
Farmers, however, remain concerned about last year’s losses. Some said their fields were not profitable and did not cover expenses, with several plots severely damaged by heavy rains.
