A 60-year-old female German tourist has drowned off Kuramathi Resort in Alif Alif atoll on Monday.
Police media official confirmed the death of RaajjeMV, going on to reveal that they had received report of the drowning close to 5pm on Monday.
Police had not revealed any information regarding the woman or her untimely death.
While this is the eighth tourist death recorded so far this year, just two days back a 40-year-old Turkish resort worker had drowned off Maafushi island in Kaafu atoll.
The Ministry of Tourism had earlier, upon the alarming hike in tourist deaths across the nation, conducted an investigation to see if there were any negligent actions that could have led up to the untimely deaths of many. Upon investigating tourist accommodation sites and hotels, the ministry found that there was no negligence on any part.
The incidents, purely nature-related, have been escalating since the end of last year.
