President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that he will never forget the parties that helped him win the election.
Speaking at an MDP campaign event in Hinnavaru on Friday night, President Solih noted the work of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Jumhooree Party (JP), Adhaalath Party, and the Maumoon Reform Movement in removing the previous oppressive administration.
The President said that none of these parties would be sidelined, since they had helped him gain immense support for the election.
President Solih said that the new administration was voted in by the people to stop tyranny and corruption and establish a decentralized government, and that they have been working to fulfill these vows since he assumed office.
He also said that main ruling party MDP should receive parliament majority and that only MPs who support the government’s pledges should be in parliament. He warned that there are many laws yet to be passed and that the government’s work would be weakened if MDP does not receive majority.
The President said that he joined the event in Hinnavaru to gain support for MDP candidate Jihan Mahmood. He is also scheduled to travel to Naifaru and Kurendhoo to meet the locals and inaugurate MDP’s parliamentary campaigns in the islands.
