President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have returned to Male’ after concluding their unofficial visit to Sri Lanka.
The president and first lady departed to Sri Lanka on an unofficial visit on July 19. During this visit, President Solih paid a courtesy call on the President of Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the unprecedented challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic poses to their respective countries and their citizens' well-being. They outlined the steps being taken to ensure that their facilities do not become overburdened, emphasising that vaccination is their top priority for a faster and sustainable recovery.
President Solih has made several official and unofficial trips to the neighbouring country since his inauguration. As such, the president's first state visit was in February 2019, following an invitation from then Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena to attend Sri Lanka's Independence Day celebration as a guest of honour.
