Government has denied the statement made by Colonel Retired Mohamed Nazim at the press conference held on Tuesday afternoon following his dismissal as Defense Minister earlier Tuesday.
Nazim, who has been removed from Defense Minister post on Tuesday said in the press conference that it was unlikely that a raid could be conducted on the residence of the Defense Minister without the knowledge of the President and that if the police could break into the home of the Defense Minister in the dead of the night, safety and security were no longer guaranteed for any Maldivian citizen.
In an interview given to Sun Online by the Spokesperson of the President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali on Tuesday afternoon said that such incidents guarantee safety and security for Maldivian citizens. Muaz said that police should attend if they receive information regarding any illegal act or possession of any illegal item, regardless of whoever is involved.
“In this case, police have raided a home believed to have dangerous weapons” said Muaz.
Muaz said that Police attending such issues ensured safety and protection for all Maldivians. It also indicates that there is no safety for those who possess dangerous weapons and sharp objects, said Muaz.
However, Muaz has said that President Yameen has faith on all his cabinet members and according to Muaz, Nazim has been removed from the post with regard to a case being investigated.
Muaz repeated the statement that President had not been informed of the raid of Nazim’s residence and President himself believed to obtain a word or an order before raiding Defense Minister’s residence.
