President commits to developing Ken’dhikulhudhoo as a prominent ‘Mangrove Island’

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured the residents of N. Ken’dhikulhudhoo that the Government will work towards establishing the island as a prominent ‘Mangrove Island’, in line with the eco-tourism vision anticipated by the community. His commitment was conveyed during his visit to the inhabited islands of South Miladhunmadulu Atoll, where he addressed locals at Ken’dhikulhudhoo School.
During the event, President Dr Muizzu emphasised the importance of preserving the islands’ natural beauty, underscoring the Government's dedication to harnessing this potential for the benefit of all residents. He outlined several initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and services on the island, including enhancements to the 24-hour health centre. The President announced plans to increase staffing and procure an additional ambulance to better serve the community’s healthcare needs.
President Dr Muizzu also addressed the state of local sports facilities, committing to repair the damaged futsal field and complete ongoing water and sanitation projects within the coming months.
Referring to the RTL School Bus Service, which commenced operations on the island today, the President noted that additional buses would be added to the fleet and the service further improved to enhance accessibility for the Ken’dhikulhudhoo community.
In conclusion, the President reiterated his commitment to fulfilling all promises made to Ken’dhikulhudhoo within this year and the next, stating that projects on other pledged islands will commence in 2026. He added that 2027 and 2028 will see the completion of these projects. He further stressed that the Government is working diligently to meet its commitments to the citizens while ensuring that debt repayments are managed without encountering economic setbacks.
Earlier this afternoon, President Dr Muizzu also attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ken’dhikulhudhoo Nature Park Visitors’ Centre.
