JSC Opens Application for Chief Justice Following Mu’thasim Adnan’s Retirement

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has opened applications for the post of Chief Justice, following the honourable retirement of Chief Justice Ahmed Mu’thasim Adnan on Monday.
JSC stated that applications will remain open until 29 July. Eligibility criteria for the position include the possession of a first degree in Shariah and Law, with at least seven years of experience as a judge or practicising lawyer.
Following the application process, the JSC will recommend candidates to the President, and he will nominate names to the Parliament for approval. The Chief Justice is appointed upon Parliamentary endorsement.
Ahmed Mu’thasim Adnan, who was appointed as Chief Justice in 2019, is the first Chief Justice to retire with honour. He has previously served as a Supreme Court Justice.
Following Mu’thasim’s retirement, the administration of the Supreme Court has been temporarily handed over to Justice Abdulla Hameed.
