Adhaalath Party has on Sunday announced its decision to compete in 13 constituencies in next year’s Parliamentary Election.
The party which is also included in the ruling coalition of four parties, said that the decision was reached after a committee meeting.
The other three parties are main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Jumhooree Party (JP) and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s Maumoon Reform Movement (MRM).
AP is to compete for seats in Kelaa constituency, Vaikaradhoo constituency, north-Kulhudhuffushi constituency, Makunudhoo constituency, Inguraidhoo constituency, Kaashidhoo constituency, Mahibadhoo constituency, Mulaku constituency, Nilandhoo constituency, Gan constituency, south-Fuvahmulah constituency, Feydhoo constituency and south-Maafannu constituency.
This comes at a time the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced its decision to compete for all 87 constituencies in the Parliamentary Election scheduled to be held in March 2019. The Party leader, Mohamed Nasheed had previously proposed to for MDP to compete in areas agreed by the ruling coalition, however, council members proposed to compete in all 87 constituencies “if the four leaders in the ruling coalition are not able to come to an agreement”.
Adhaalath Party had previously announced that they are working to endorse 10,000 members to the party registry after kick starting a campaign to promote the party.
