The former coach of Maldives national football team، Velizar Popov said has stated that he will continue his support towards Maldives’ football.
After submitting his official resignation، the Bulgarian international had extended his gratitude towards technical and coaching staffs as well as players for their support during his tenure as the head coach of the national football team.
Popov stated that receiving a second opportunity in serving Maldivian football was a pride، however he expressed his grief for having to leave the designation before fulfilling his promise of developing football further in Maldives.
“When I took this job، I had promised to develop the Maldivian football further ahead، but I am sad that I have to leave before I get to achieve it” Popov said.
According to the 39 year old he is proud of every game and every practice session with Maldives، while he had marked the performance of Maldivian team against Seychelles، Qatar and Hong Kong as noteworthy.
“Back in 2013 when I was working in New Radiant I had worked how I wanted، the pre-Season went as I wanted it to as well as I had maintained the team formation and players disciples” he said.
Velizar Popov، who had been one of the pioneers behind New Radiant’s success، stated that he does not criticize his former teams or players، and that it is against his principles، adding “I will remain a supporter of Maldives’ football، and I wish prosperity and development for Maldivian football.”
Popov submitted his resignation due to FAM’s pressuring.
Meanwhile، national football team’s captain Ali Ashfaq and national football team’s number one goalkeeper Imran Mohamed، both had defended and spoken on behalf of Popov while they had criticized the decision of FAM and their comments against the former coach of national football team.
