Pakistani marine have detained 61 Indian fishermen for violationg territorial waters in the Arabian Sea according to Pakistan police.
As per reports، the fishermen strayed into Pakistani waters where Pakistan Maritime Security Agency arrested the men and handed them over to police.
Al-Jazeera’s Hameedullah Khan said the men were travelling in 11 boats at the time of their arrest، and they will be transported over to Malir Jail، Karachi. Khan also stated that this would not be the first time Indian fishermen is believed to have breached into territorial waters of Pakistan.
Such arrests are frequented by both India and Pakistan، as their maritime border in Arabian Sea is poorly defined. While many of the fishing boats lack the technology required to be certain of their precise location.
The fishermen caught under foreign land، normally languish in jail both before and even after serving their terms، due to poor diplomatic ties between India and Pakistan over decades long fued between them، this fulfilling official requirements takes time.
Arrested fishermen، this time around may even have a worse fate، since the relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors have worsened even before in recents times، with some of the worst shelling in years over the dispute of Kashmir border.
